'Song' of the Day: Self Evident - Ani DiFranco
"so here's a toast to all the folks who live in palestine
afghanistan
iraq
el salvador
here's a toast to the folks living on the pine ridge reservation
under the stone cold gaze of mt.
rushmore
here's a toast to all those nurses and doctors
who daily provide women with a choice
who stand down a threat the size of oklahoma
city
just to listen to a young woman's voice
here's a toast to all the folks on death row right now
awaiting the executioner's guillotine
who are shackled there with dread and can only escape into their heads
to find peace in the form of a dream
cuz take away our playstations
and we are a third world nation
under the thumb of some blue blood royal son
who stole the oval office and that phony election
i mean
it don't take a weatherman
to look around and see the weather
jeb said he'd deliver florida, folks
and boy did he ever
and we hold these truths to be self evident:
#1 george w. bush is not president
#2 america is not a true democracy
#3 the media is not fooling me"

i actually woke up singing this song, seems appropriate since we're heading south on friday.
i absolutely can't wait.
all this snow is driving me mad, i'm not skiing - so it's pointless!
Here Comes the Sun
George Harrison
The Beatles Abbey Road [1969]
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right
i'm also on a bit of a beatles kick right now. across the universe came out on dvd, mind blowing, loved it.
today was one of those days where part of a song just repeats over and over and over....and over and over and OVER
"dear life" - chantal kreviazuk
...no we've never been away from here
so we'll try to lose ourselves again
no we've never been away from here
so we'll try to lose ourselves again
we've never been away from here
so we'll try to lose ourselves again
we've never been away from here
so we'll try to lose ourselves again

i've been listening to the JUNO ost for the past week. it's odd music, and intrigues me greatly. we listened to it in the car this weekend. lauren fell in love with this song and insisted on playing the hell out of it.
Kimya Dawson "Loose Lips"
this is the part that gets stuck in your head:
"we won't stop until somebody calls the cops,
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened."
here are some cool parts:
"and we'll pray, all damn day, every day,
that all this shit our president has got us in will go away
while we strive to figure out a way we can survive
these trying times without losing our minds"
"so if you wanna burn yourself, remember that i love you
and if you wanna cut yourself, remember that i love you
and if you wanna kill yourself, remember that i love you
call me up before your dead, we can make some plans instead
send me an IM, i'll be your friend"

"good morning house plants
...yes it's wake up time
time to get up and go to work..."
for some reason today while I was making my breakfast, I started singing and dancing to this song...maybe it was the meal, maybe it was my body telling me i needed to move around, who knows...
i quickly raced through all of my mix cds to find the summer mix - i had to listen to the song, or it would be in my head all day.
"It's a long road to freedom,
A winding steep and high,
But when you walk in love with the wind on your wing,
And cover the earth with the songs you sing
The miles fly by."
